If you wish to attract small mammals to your backyard, the easiest way is to buy a bird feeder–squirrels and chipmunks love bird seed! In fact, many bird feeders advertise they are squirrel proof to try to keep the seed for birds. Squirrels are very acrobatic and can get around many attempts to keep them out! Do not approach wild animals in your yard. They may look tame but they are not. Some carry diseases which humans can catch if they are bitten.
